George Vassallo

At first when you meet George, “gentleman George” springs to mind. But then after a while you realize there is far more to this legend at Frank Salt Real Estate: George has a wild side, that of a maverick! We could imagine him being part of the “in crowd” wearing a leather jacket with slicked back hair, driving to the roadhouse in a growling V8 in the 50’s or if it was the 70’s and 80’s being on the road with the Rolling Stones! George’s love for everything music and mechanical, especially the vintage variety is palpable whenever you talk to him. This must be one of the ingredients that is keeping him young and allows him to enjoy life to the fullest, as you can always pick up on the optimism in his voice.

With his long tenure at Frank Salt, George has met many, many people and that includes staff and clients…and they unanimously had one thing to say about him: “What a hell of a nice guy!” We say ROCK ON, GEORGE!

Here’s what he had to say when we prodded him for answers about who, where and why:

“Work hard, spend time with the most experienced sales consultants and watch them close deals; be honest in your dealings; be patient and hear what your clients have to say. it is one of the most rewarding and satisfying jobs out there."

What can you tell us about your background and your family?

I come from a family of lawyers. My father, brother, uncles, cousins, grandfather and great grandfather were all lawyers! I was expected to continue the tradition but chose a different path. I’m a father of four lovely daughters and married to the love of my life. I always prayed to be surrounded by women but was misunderstood…

Tell us some cool facts about any hobbies or other stuff you enjoy doing in your free time

I’m a music aficionado and have a super passion for cars, boats and enjoy everything to do with the sea. I own more Hi-Fi systems than most people (all hidden from my wife of course) and am obsessive about cool, classic cars.

Share some details of your academic achievements and work experience with us!

I left school at 16. At 20, I found real estate purely by chance and have never looked back. Almost 35 years later I’m a Director at Frank Salt Real Estate. I’m very proud of my journey and am still addicted to closing a good sale!

And now fill us in on some details of your academic achievements and work experience.

After I was interviewed by Mr. Frank Salt in 1986, I took a complete liking to the man and saw the passion he had for the business he was running… and felt like this is something I wanted to do.

What attracted you to join the Frank Salt team?

I was always interested in property and have quite a few friends who are in this industry. After some research, I chose Frank Salt as it is a respected and well-known company. They also provide excellent training, so I had to join them!

If you could have supper with anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?

Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. No explanation needed really!

Classic cars, everything about them and music! My brain is tuned into seventies rock and the blues. I’m intrigued with the history behind these great musicians

What do you enjoy most so far about your job?

The freedom that comes with it, the money I earn, the people I meet and the satisfaction of closing a difficult deal.

What would you do if you had enough money to not need a job?

Buy an ocean-going trawler and spend a few years off the coast of Alaska.

Any stories or incidents you would like to share that happened at work and that you will never forget?

I once showed a villa to two Scotsmen in Mellieha who turned up quite drunk to say the least. As I was showing the house one of them opened the door to a bedroom and the owner was standing there, stark naked taking a shower! The door got jammed and we awkwardly stood there for a few minutes that felt like an eternity. The Scots just could not stop laughing.

What was the last show you binge-watched?

Game of Thrones, That Seventies Show and Seinfeld.

Among your friends, what are you best known for?

My very corny jokes and my love of loud music.

What is the silliest of your fears? Why?

I have a fear of horses! I never quiet learned how to ride and one threw me off years ago.

Some beer, white wine, and a bottle of Champagne that has been there for about two years. Oh yes, and some food.

What would you do if you encountered a shark on a diving experience?

I have! I went on a diving holiday in Indonesia a few years ago with some good friends and came across three large grey sharks. They totally ignored us, and I found it an amazing experience seeing these beautiful creatures. I would love to do it again.
