As part of the Maltese government’s multi-million economic stimulus package, buyers can now benefit from a reduced stamp duty rate of 1.5% from the current 5%. The measure can be availed of by all buyers who sign their property contract by end of December 2021. The measure applies for residential properties only and covers the first €400,000 of the property value.
From the vendor’s side, property transfer tax has been reduced to 5% from the current 8%, for all contracts signed until end of December 2022.
