Żabbar is a city in the south-eastern region of Malta. It is the sixth largest city in the country, with a population of 15 500.The name derives from the Maltese word for pruning trees. The town was used as an encampment by the Ottoman armies at the outset of the Great Siege of 1565. During the British era a number of forts and batteries were built in the area. These were Fort Saint Rocco, Fort Saint Leonardo, Delle Grazie Battery and Żonqor Battery.
The building of the Church of Our Lady of Graces was started in 1641 and many other churches are found within the local area.
The patron saint is Our Lady of Graces and the festa is held every year on the Sunday after 8 September.
