Swieqi is a town in the northern region of Malta, it has an estimated population of 12 000. It is mainly residential and just 15 minutes by bus from Sliema and within walking distance of Malta’s nightlife and entertainment centres, Paceville and St. Julian’s. The name means “water channels”, a reminder of the region’s past.
It is a quiet area and its central location makes it popular with affluent property buyers. Most of the locality has been built on and open land is scarce. Swieqi also seems to be the favourite location of many IT companies and several English language schools are based here.
The town’s parish church is dedicated to Our Lady the Immaculate Conception Mother of the Church and the festa is celebrated on 8 December.
