Malta voted best island resort

Malta has been voted as “The Best Island Resort” by travellers and tourists of Over ten thousand people participated.

The award was presented to the Malta Tourism Authority during an awards ceremony in Moscow. It was presented by the chief editor of the portal, Maria Puzankova.

The information portal is one of the most popular internet tourist resources in the Russian market and this was the 10th edition of the awards.

Past winners in the island resort category have been: Maldives – 2004-2009; Boracay (Philippines) — 2010; Crete (Greece) — 2011; Malta — 2012. Malta competed against another 34 destinations.

In 2012 Malta achieved a 31 per cent increase from the Russian market to reach the all-time high of almost 32,000 Russian tourists visiting the islands.

The Russian market registered the highest overall absolute increase in tourist numbers in 2012 from all the markets (+7,466).
