Meet Our People – Amy Brimmer
We got together with Amy on what promises to be a sizzling summer’s day, much like her personality and asked her about her passion for real estate and yes, kickboxing! As a relative newcomer to selling property, she joined the San Gwann Branch of Frank Salt Real Estate in December of 2020 but already notched up some impressive sales.
We could tell that she has definitely found her niche career, as when asked if she will ever aim at being part of any management structure in the future, she unequivocally said “No!” She enjoys the interaction with and meeting new clients far too much and coming from a customer relations background, she is now in her element as an agent.
When she has a spare moment she loves to go and swim and get some sun, but she also ploughs some of the abundant energy she has by assisting with the kickboxing team that she helped to establish at her local gym. With a busy schedule like hers, all we can say is “Get out of Amy’s way, this lady is going places!”
”...the more you learn the more exciting the next client will be.”
Q: Who is Amy in 100 words
I am an uncomplicated person with a passion for nature and animals, even insects – I literally cannot hurt a fly! I have learned to appreciate and be happy with what I have but still work hard to better myself. I love meeting new people and learning about different cultures. I recently (the last 2 years actually) discovered kickboxing which became part of my lifestyle. I train 5 times a week and the sport in itself helps me relax and feel better about myself. I love sparring but I do not have a desire to compete… I do it entirely for my own sense of wellbeing.
Q: Can you tell us briefly about your background and your family?
I was born on the 5th of October 1988 lived in Qormi for 25 years. I now live in Qawra with my partner Alex and we are getting married in 2023! I was brought up in a family of 4 and I have an older brother. The strong values that we were brought up with are honesty and loyalty.
Q: Tell us some cool facts about any hobbies or other stuff you enjoy doing in your free time
Besides sports I love to relax near the beach with a book. I spend a lot of time playing with my cat Ozzy and my dog Bubbles.
Q: And now fill us in on some details of your academic achievements and work experience!
I graduated from MCAST ICT as a software developer; however I did not like the fact that I was constantly tied to a desk and a computer. So I decided to take a different career path and I joined Toyota where I worked mainly in customer relations/experience. This is where I developed my passion for working with and improving on the customer’s touch point.
Q: What attracted you to join the Frank Salt team?
I always loved interacting with people and I wanted something besides a desk job but I did not want to join just any real estate agency. I wanted a company that placed a high value on honesty and openness and after speaking with Frank Salt Real Estate’s directors, I immediately knew it was the right fit for me.
Q: Who is the most fascinating person you’ve met and why?
Definitely my partner Alex Horvath as he inspires me. Although he had a more difficult start in life, he managed to make his passion his career. He is 2 times world champion and 7 times European champion in karate! He then changed to K1 and is currently fighting at professional level and also coaching and I am one of his students. I admire his determination and discipline in order to achieve his goals.
Q: What do you enjoy most so far about your job?
The challenge of finding my clients the perfect home.
Q: What are you kind of obsessed with these days?
Definitely food! I am obsessive about “clean eating” in order to keep healthy and this goes hand in hand with keeping active and fit.
Q: What would you do if you had enough money to not need a job?
I would travel the world, live in different cultures and experience different lifestyles. I would also volunteer at animal shelters.
Q: What was the last show you binge-watched?
I do not really like watching TV as it is a waste of time for me, but I did watch Game Of Thrones when we were all in quarantine.
Q: Among your friends, what are you best known for?
Hahaha! Good one… I think that would be that I am the impulsive one. I do things without thinking and just follow my heart.
Q: What is the silliest of your fears? Why?
I don’t know which is the silliest… you choose! I’m afraid of belly buttons, I’m afraid of feathers and I’m afraid of clowns as all of them are irrational to me and I cannot explain why!
Q: What household chore is just the worst?
All of them!!!! But If I had to choose it would be ironing.
Q: Any stories or incidents you would like to share that happened at work and that you will never forget?
I once walked into a villa with a seller and what I did not know was that he was going through a very bad separation. As we walked in, his (then) wife came out shouting at us: “You! You come here with your ladies!” she shouted amongst many other insults. I tried to explain the situation to her but she refused to listen, so I walked out of the villa and never returned!
Q: What advice will you give to someone who wants to become an estate agent?
It’s a roller coaster of emotions but it’s all worth it because the more you learn the more exciting the next client will be. No client is ever the same, so you need to keep on adjusting, making the job challenging and interesting.
Q: What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
I went for what had to be a quick run and on the way I decided not to take my usual route along the promenade. I took some back roads that led to a rural area and ran into some dogs. They starting chasing me which made me run even faster and not noticing where I’m running, I ended up lost in the middle of nowhere and with no phone! I only arrived home a few hours later…so much for a quick run. The moral of this story: always take phone with you.
Q: What would you like to know more about, but haven’t had the time to look into it?
Psychology, as it is a subject I’ve always wanted to study but have never gotten to.
