Qawra is part of the larger area of the St. Paul’s Bay zone and located is in the northern region of Malta. In around 1638, the Order of St. John built Qawra Tower at Qawra Point. The tower and battery are now a restaurant and parts of the entrenchment can still be seen.

It is a very  “touristy” area of Malta due to the many bars. Summer temperatures can be as hot as 40 °C and casinos and clubs are also a major part of this small town. The rocky beaches are extremely popular providing many a swimming spot and spaces for sun worshippers to soak it all up. It is popular with tourists who like to walk by the sea at night along the popular promenades.

Other main activities and attractions are the Malta National Aquarium, the Malta Classic Car Museum and Buġibba Temple, the salt pans and a well-known bird park.

Qawra’s festa is on the 1st of September and dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi.
