About Msida

Msida is a harbour town in the Central Region of Malta with a population of 9000. Neighbouring towns are Msida are Ta’ Xbiex, Gżira, San Ġwann, Birkirkara, Santa Venera, Ħamrun and Pietà. The patron saint of Msida is Saint Joseph and the feast is celebrated in July each year. Popular places include the Yacht Marina, the seaside with traditional fishing boats, the University of Malta and several gardens. The name means “a fisherman’s dwelling”. Msida became a parish in 1867.

Being a bustling university town, development has been cantered on the increasing student population at the University as well as various new service industries that have sprung in this town in recent years. This has led to a high demand for property of any kind: houses, terraced houses, houses of character, apartments, maisonettes and even penthouses do not stay on the market for very long in Msida.

Msida has also experienced a lot of reclamation from the sea. The town center and surrounding areas which were located below sea-level were all reclaimed from the sea, after World War II.  The University of Malta is situated in a part of Msida known as Tal-Qroqq  and Msida is also home to the Giovanni Francesco Abela Junior College and a State Nursing Home.

The country’s biggest hospital, Mater Dei, is located in the outskirts of Msida.
