About Hamrun


Hamrun is a town in the Southern Region of Malta, with a population of 9500. Legend has it that a community of Sicilians settled here in the 16th century.Hamrun is increasingly becoming a cultural melting pot, especially in culinary terms. It organises an annual chocolate festival. Many different cuisines available in Hamrun, apart from contemporary local food, one can find Turkish, Afghan, West African, Syrian and Italian cuisine. There is even an an art-deco café.

Our Lady of Atoċja Chapel is the oldest chapel in Hamrun. It was built in the early 17th century and patron Saints of Hamrun are Saint Cajetan and Saint Joseph.

The Malta Railway used to run through the area and Hamrun even sports a former train station. The locality has the largest concentration of schools in the whole of Malta.
