This week we are interviewing Francesca Drury of the Spinola Letting Branch. With a decade of experience in real estate and a background in beauty therapy, Francesca combines a keen eye for detail with a deep understanding of her clients’ needs. Known for her professionalism, integrity and ability to navigate complex transactions, she has built a strong reputation for helping members of the public to secure their ideal homes. Adaptable and market-savvy, Francesca thrives in the dynamic world of the Malta lettings industry – which at times can be extremely competitive and stressful – but outside of work, she cherishes the precious time she spends with her family and especially those moments she shares with her son.
She took some time out of her busy schedule to answer the questions we had ready for her.
1.What did you dream of becoming when you were a child? Did life take you there?
When I was a child, I dreamed of becoming a psychologist because I was always fascinated by the human mind and wanted to help people understand themselves better. But as life unfolded, I found myself drawn to different opportunities – first in the beauty industry and eventually into real estate. Even though it’s a different path, I still get to connect with people, understand their needs and help them make important decisions – so in a way, that childhood dream still lives on, just in a different form.
2. You haven’t always been in real estate – you started out as a beautician! Do you see any similarities between that and what you do now?
Yes, actually! Both roles are all about understanding people’s needs and helping them feel good – whether it’s about how they look or where they live. Building trust and creating a positive experience is key in both.
3. Before joining Frank Salt, you worked with another major agency. What do you think sets us apart from the rest?
Frank Salt Real Estate stands out because of its supportive and collaborative environment. There’s a real emphasis on professionalism, but also on creating meaningful connections with clients and within the team. It’s not just about making sales – it’s about truly helping people in making very important and costly decisions.
4. What do you love most about being a letting specialist?
Being a letting specialist, I’d say the best part would be connecting the right people with the right homes. There’s something really satisfying about helping someone find a place that just feels right – whether it’s their first flat, a family home, or a new start. You’re not just handing over keys, you’re helping to set the stage for the next important chapter of someone’s life.
5. Has there ever been to a property that made you think, “I’d move in tomorrow”? What made it stand out?
Absolutely! There have definitely been a few that made me think “Yup, pack the bags, I’m moving in.” The ones that really stand out tend to have a certain mix of things that just feel right: a good energy and not necessarily even something you can pinpoint. Some places just feel good right from the moment when you walk in.
6. What’s the weirdest or most unexpected thing you’ve come across in a rental property?
I once walked into a rental and found a small pig in the living room – just chilling like he owned the place. For a moment, I thought I was in the wrong listing!
7. How do you go about matching a client with not just any property, but the right one?
I begin by engaging in open-ended conversations to uncover my client’s lifestyle, priorities and non-negotiables. I utilise active listening techniques such as paraphrasing and summarising to ensure clarity and to build a rapport.
8. Any golden advice you’d give to landlords looking to boost their rental income?
A well-kept, updated property attracts better tenants and can justify a higher rent. Even simple touches like fresh paint or good lighting can make a huge difference.
9. What’s the number one thing every tenant should double-check before signing a lease?
Make sure you know exactly what’s covered in the rent: things like utilities, maintenance or if there are any hidden fees. It’s better to ask upfront than be caught off guard later!
10. Outside of work, you’re also a mum. How do you juggle family life with a busy career?
Balancing motherhood with a busy career is definitely a challenge, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. For me, it comes down to prioritising, staying organised and being present in the moment. When I’m at work, I try to give it my full focus and when I’m with my family, I make sure I’m truly present with them.
11. With everything on your plate, how do you unwind? Do you have any hobbies or activities that help you recharge?
I don’t have hobbies in the traditional sense, but I’d say my equivalent is diving into interesting conversations and learning new things. I enjoy going for walks, drives, swimming or even just relaxing with a good playlist and an excellent glass of wine.
12. If you could have a superpower to help with your job, what would it be?
Definitely teleportation – imagine being able to show five properties in five different locations in one afternoon without traffic or parking stress!
13. Do you have a lucky charm or a little ritual before meeting with a big client?
I prefer to keep that a secret! Everyone has their own little ritual to stay focused
14. And finally… what’s your guilty pleasure after a long day on the job?
After a long day, I love relaxing with a glass of red wine. It’s my way of winding down and reflecting on what went down that particular day
